When You Find a Lost or Stray Pet

Due to a shortage of trained volunteers, PAWS can no longer pick up stray pets that are outside town limits. We may be able to pick up a stray pet outside town limits during shelter hours (Tues. to Sat. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). If the animal is in the Town of Creston, please call Bylaw at 250-428-2214.

Please don’t wait too long to contact PAWS. If the pet has been hanging around for a week or looks like it’s not doing well, please call us.

The care of these vulnerable pets is very important to us, but we could really use some help from the community we serve.

Here’s How You Can Help

  1. Secure the animal and get a photo (face and full body most helpful.
  2. Post to local social media sites. If you don't have access, you can email PAWS at pets@pawscreston.ca with photos and details (area found, day, sex if known, identifying characteristics, etc.) for posting. Note that there may be a delay as emails are monitored by volunteers after hours.
  3. Offer safe housing while the owner is being sought or call PAWS during shelter hours to discuss bringing in the stray.
  4. If you have questions or need guidance on helping the stray, please call PAWS at 250-428-7297.
